Do You Have What It Takes to Succeed in Online Business?

Life is tough, and so is online business. In fact, running any type of business is a tough proposition. In order to succeed in online business, you have to work hard.

I think most who come online looking to start a business are looking for a way out of their current financial situation. They’re in over their heads financially, and they think that starting a business is a quick way out.

Yes, there are some businesses you may start online to make extra money to help you solve some of your current financial problems. Most are only looking for extra money to make ends meet anyway.

If you are looking for long term financial freedom, and you want to work for yourself, then it will take you a little while to get started.

There are several questions you need to ask yourself before starting a business. These questions will help you decide if you have what it takes to succeed online.

1. Do you have the qualities of a leader?

Some leaders are born and others are made. If you want to succeed though, you need to be able to lead. This includes being able to make decisions.

The truth is, most people are followers. The 80/20 rule doesn’t just apply to marketing or productivity. It applies to life. 20 percent will lead, the rest will follow.

2. Can you see the big picture?

I learned this one from Mark Joyner, the grandfather of internet marketing. True leadership is the ability to see the big picture and see what’s actually happening in your business. This will influence the decisions you make and whether or not you make the right ones that grow your business.

3. Do you have a plan?

It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. The first place to start is a mission statement. A mission statement is an overall statement of what your business is about. Then you’ll need to ask yourself what types of products or services you will sell, how you will market them.

Write these things down. Then write out the steps you will take to make these things happen.

4. Are you focused?

Business opportunities come a mile a minute on the internet. Someone is always offering the next big thing.

It’s easy to jump in on the next big thing hoping to cash in. After awhile though, you learn that all of that is just noise. Choose what you want your business to be. Market your business. Before you buy anything, ask yourself, “Will this contribute to the overall success of my business?” If the answer is no, then don’t buy it.

Focus ties in with your plan. Your plan doesn’t have to be written in stone. Make it flexible. If what you are doing isn’t working, then try something else. Just don’t jump on the bandwagon every time a new opportunity comes along.

5. Are you willing to learn?

I was listening to Joel Osteen the other day, and he said something I found to be unbelievable. 50 percent of adults, after they graduate from school, never completely read another book.

Now you don’t have to use books to read. There are plenty of other ways to learn. Learning is a necessary part of business, and it contributes to your overall growth as a person. Even if you only have a few minutes a day, commit to learning something new that will help you in business.

Learning is a lifelong process. If you want to succeed, you will need to constantly learn new things.

6. Are you willing to take risks?

Risk is a necessary part of business. You will have to make decisions you are responsible for. Personal responsibility is part of running a business whether you accept it or not.

7. Can you take criticism?

If I had quit running my business every time someone made a negative comment to me, or said something negative about me, I would have quit the first day I started my business.

Negative people are inevitable in business and in life. Take their criticism with a grain of salt. Some of it may be valid and will help you improve your products. Use it. It’s valuable business intelligence.

If it’s just meant to hurt or mislead, then ignore it. For whatever reason, those who are negative don’t want you to succeed. Ignore it. Consider the source. Negativity comes from a person’s own personal unhappiness, and misery does love company.

Starting a business is never easy, but there is a simple process for success. Apply this process, and your success is assured.
