If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
One of my readers posted a comment on my blog about this, and although I address it in my new book, I’d like to address it here as I think this is an important issue.
The reason I offer both RSS and email is really simple: different readers want different options.
Although RSS is gaining popularity, because it allows you to keep up more easily with topics you are interested in, only about 20 to 30 percent of readers are even aware of the technology.
Just about everyone, regardless of how new they are to the internet, are familiar with email.
Although there are plugins you can use with Wordpress to allow subscribers to subscribe through email, I only found out about them recently.
I’ve known about Feed Blitz for a long time, and so that’s what I decided to use for those who want to subscribe using email.
If you plan to create a blog, then I would recommend you use both. This way you can give your readers choices. Feed Blitz works with any blog because you only have to copy and paste a little bit of code onto your site once you set it up.
You can also use Feed Burner now for this, and you can also use their program to create more reader friendly RSS feeds.
Now, to answer my reader’s questions:
1. No, you don’t have to have your blog hosted. Blogger is a great choice and will work with Feed Blitz. I know plenty of people who use Blogger because it’s reputable. Just make sure you follow the terms of service for whatever solution you choose.
2. Email and RSS complement one another because you are catering to readers with different preferences. I recommend using both.
I hope this helps all of you. Please let me know what you think.
