For those of you who don’t know who Matt Cutts is, you really should get to know him, or at least his work.
Matt currently heads the Webspam team at Google. He started off at Google in 2001 as a software engineer.
There’s been a lot of talk about duplicate content, duplicate content penalties, and sites falling out of the search engines. Since this is never a problem I’ve had, I never worried about it.
However, if you are online, and you have a website you’ve indexed, or you’re trying to index, you should at least know about it.
Unlike a lot of people, I appreciate Google. I don’t always agree with what they do, and it sure pissed me off when they took my Adsense account, especially since they never told me what I did wrong.
I do at least appreciate the fact that they are good about indexing my sites, and they seem to index all of my sites completely. I’ve never had any problems in that area with Google.
Anyway, Matt Cutts has written an article with a few references to other articles, about the duplicate content issue, as well as some of the factors Google uses to decide who gets indexed and where.
It’s definitely worth a read.
Matt also offers some videos on search engine optimization. Here is an example of the one for webmaster tools Google offers:
Here is one on SEO Myths. (If you click on “From User”, it will show you all of the videos Matt has uploaded here so you can watch all of his SEO videos).
