If you are brand new to the internet, or you are looking for a way to increase your income without creating new products or services, then joining affiliate programs is the way to go.
You don’t need to provide customer service, you don’t need a merchant account, and you don’t have to deal with the hassles of of product creation. You just don’t have to deal with the hassles of a product or service oriented business.
All you have to do is pick the topic you are interested in, build a website, and get busy promoting. If you build your website correctly, it will be a snap adding content to your site, and you can continue to write content for your site.
You don’t have to write all of your content though. You can use tools like Orwell to help you find content you can use on website.
Once you have a website built, you need to get busy promoting. You can use the same techniques I outlined in my book, Internet Marketing for Free. This download is free, in PDF so it can be read on any computer, and it will even give you some great tips on building an affiliate website.
The biggest tip I can give you on marketing affiliate programs is to never send your visitor directly to the affiliate program. Get your visitors’ contact information first. Follow up is key in any business regardless of what kind of business you run.
Below are some of the best free resources I’ve used to help me promote affiliate programs:
Affiliate Cash Secrets - Step by Step Tutorial on Starting an Affiliate Business
Affiliate Classroom Ezine - This ezine contains plenty of tips and articles on affiliate marketing. It’s one of the best free ezines on the internet today.
Automatic Money Machine - One of the best free ebook packages on the internet, this ebook was written by Ewen Chia. Includes 12 videos to help you build and market your website, as well as an excellent reference on list building.
Guru Pal - If you need free tools to help you market your affiliate programs, Anthony Tomei offers the best.
I’ll go into deeper detail on affiliate marketing in my next segment on building websites. If you sell affiliate programs, you need a website, period.
Regardless of what type of business you run, you need to offer your visitors value. Offer them value and keep them coming back for more.

I recently had a former client who had set up an affiliate program with Shareasale write and ask how he could more actively promote his affiliate program. Again, it made me realize that a program will only be as successful as it’s affiliates, and the pareto principle definitely comes into play (meaning 90% of your sales will come from 10% of your people). If your program doesn’t stand out, you won’t be remarkable. Attracting the right people and keeping them motivated is critical to the success of an affiliate marketing program. Creating working relationships with good synergy is key as well. If you sell peanut butter, partner with a site that sells jelly. Make it EASY for those around you to make money, and they will often try to reciprocate. Work with your affiliates to get rankings and sales
