MLM is one of those unique opportunities where you’re marketing to different audiences.

Your first audience is those you are trying to recruit into your downline. Your second audience is those who are interested in your product, your potential buyers.

Your first step here should be to construct a website around your opportunity. Not only are you competing against other distributors in your company, you are also competiing against other companies with similar products.

Just as in any other business, you need to make yourself different. You want to offer value to your visitors they won’t find elsewhere from other distributors.

There are several ways you can do this:

1. Know your products. You can’t promote your products if you don’t believe in them or they don’t do what they are supposed to. Make sure you understand the benefits and limitations of your products. When you understand these, it will make it easier for you to promote your products because you’ll know what you need to say when writing your promotional materials.

2. Always emphasize the main benefit of your product in your advertising, as well as your other promotional materials because your goal is to solve a problem for the person reading the promotional materials. Solve the problem, and it’s easier to make the sale.

3. Study any materials given to you or sold to you by the company. Even if you don’t know the answer to the question your potential customer or recruit is asking, you’ll know where to look. These materials are valuable in helping you to write your own.

4. Again, build a website. You can use a lead capture page for the home page. Then you can have other categories in your menu like articles, product reviews on your topic or, if your company has a lot of products, write a review on each product. You can also offer information on the opportunity.

Once you build your website, get busy promoting it. There are plenty of free and low cost ways to promote your opportunity, and you’ll find many of those on this blog. Get busy.

Build a list. I can’t emphasize this one enough. Most won’t visit your site more than once, and if you don’t remind them you exist, you won’t make the sale.

On average, it takes about seven contacts over the course of a year to get others to buy. With repeated follow up, over the course of a year, about 80 percent will buy.

5. Learn everything you can about your company, including any training offered. With MLM, it’s easy to market both online and offline. It’s one of the reasons it’s also called network marketing. Concentrate on building relationships too.

You can apply the same techniques I’ve outlined here to affiliate programs. However, affiliate programs are somewhat different because normally you aren’t looking to recruit other affiliates.

The best resource I can recommend is James Grandstaff’s Downline Secrets.

This informative audio is free, and it will show you how to recruit new members into your opportunity.
