Promoting your services is somewhat similar to promoting your products. You can basically use the same techniques as you used to promote your products.

There are a few differences though.

This is especially true if you also sell your own products. Every service you sell should complement your products, and your products should brand you in your services.


One technique I didn’t talk about before when talking about promoting products is giving away a free ebook. This is especially important when selling your services because it gives your potential customers a taste of what you can do. It is also a way for you to provide valuable information to your potential customers about your area of expertise.

For example, if you are a web designer, a short ebook on elements of good web design would work really well for you. If you design only flash websites, you could also write a report on this.

Personal services are a good example. Say you offer a personal service where you cook for others. You could offer a short report on healthy meals.

The list is endless on what you can write about. What’s key here with services is that if you plan to offer them, you need to be a decent writer because you’ll need to communicate those ideas on your site.

Writing articles can also help you the most here because most who offer services don’t write articles and brand themselves as experts.

Don’t limit yourself to the digital world either. Amazon offers about 80,000 magazines, and you can also do a search for trade magazines in your area of expertise.

The right trade magazine in your area of expertise can go a long way to helping you build new business.

This is where it is also especially important to follow up. Repeat business is the lifeblood of your business. Repeat business saves you marketing time, as well as helping you get the most from your customers. Provide a good service the first time, and you can expect repeat business later.

The important thing here is making contact. Email might be enough. Then again, you may need to call once in awhile, or send out a letter reminding your past customers.

What you do depends largely on your circumstances and the nature of your business.

Your focus should again be on branding yourself. Regardless of what service you sell, you can’t be all things to all people.

If you sell writing services, your writing services won’t appeal to every market, only those who are looking for your particular type of writing.

Marketing techniques are the same for any business. It’s how you apply them and where you market that makes the difference.
