I’ll be honest with you; I don’t spend a lot of time on the forums reading about how to get high rankings in the search engines. After downloading Web CEO, and taking their course, I followed the instructions they offered on getting good rankings for my websites, and what they told me worked. It’s really not that hard.
Of course, I use "White Hat" search engine techniques. White hat techniques are where you basically follow the rules, or guidelines offered by the search engine you are submitting to. Since Web CEO allows you to optimize your sites for Google, or generally optimize for the major search engines, again, using these techniques makes it easy.
Now, Jon Leger has written an ebook about the myths related to search engine optimization, as well as ranking well in the search engines.
These myths are:
1. Google knows all and sees all
2. Google will not rank duplicate content
3. You must get links from related sites to rank
4. Your site must focus on one subject to rank high
5. High Page Rank means good rankings
6. To maintain good rankings, you must add new content
7. Ranking in Google is hard
Although most of these myths apply specifically to Google, because Google is the number one search engine in the world, some of them do apply to the other search engines.
I know from experience that many of these myths are false because I’ve managed to rank my sites high in the search engines for hundreds of keywords. I try to write keyword optimized content, but it’s more important to write content that people can read. You really should focus on writing for your readers, and it doesn’t have to be Pulitzer prize winning content either.
