Should You Build a List and Website for Your Business?

One of my readers posted this question on my support desk. I felt it was too important not to post the answer for everyone. I look forward to hearing your comments, as well as your questions. Thank you Harold. Excellent question.

Question: You have said, when selling affiliate products (clickbank) for  example, it’s best to have a website rather than send your prospect directly to the clicbank sales page. Others have said,  (bum marketing) that no web page is needed ! IF A WEBSITE IS NEEDED, WHAT SHALL IT SAY?

Answer: Both sides are right. However, the difference lies in three things:

First, recycling your traffic.

Second, how much income you want to make.

Third, building a list, and this is tied to recycling your traffic.

The reason that I recommend you build a website, even if it’s only a lead capture page, is that you capture the name and email address of your visitor. This way, you can build a relationship with the person. It allows you to market to the person multiple times.

You build up trust and credibility with the person, and the longer you have the relationship with that person, the more likely he/she is to buy.

Those who build lists tend to make more money because they are building relationships with others. The larger your list, the more money you can make, and the easier and faster it is to make that money.

However, if building a list or website is not something you are interested in, then you can go the other way. You don’t need a list or website to make money.

Here’s what you have to do:

Find sites you can market on that will allow you to submit your ads, articles, etc, with an affiliate link in your promotional material.

Many article sites won’t accept affiliate links in the resource box, and sites like Craig’s List don’t allow you to put an affiliate link in your ad.

If you want to submit articles with an affiliate link, use these sites:

Go Articles
Article City
US Free Ads

If you want to submit ads, use these sites. (I actually like these two sites better because Google loves US Free Ads and Yahoo loves Ad Post.)

US Free Ads
Ad Post

If you do decide that you want a website, but you don’t want the hassle of buying hosting, domains, etc. the absolute best way to do this is Squidoo.

Squidoo allows you to promote affiliate products, and you can also make money from using the site. You can make a lot of money from this site, it’s easy to get really high search engine rankings, and if you decide to market using articles, you can use the links to your lenses in your resource box because Ezine Articles will accept them.

If you do decide to build a website/lead capture page, I can give you some examples.

Ask Jinger Now
Search Engine Optimization
Keyword Search

The first one I created from scratch. The other two I got from Affiliate Cash Secrets.

If you do decide that you want to create a lead capture page, I’ve written some software that you can download. It will do all the formatting for you. All you have to do is add the text and the subscription box information.

Lead Capture Page Software

If you’re starting out on a shoestring, one of my readers offers free autoresponders. You can sign up here: Easy Responders.

You can always upgrade later. The difference between free and paid autoresponders is usually that the free autoresponder messages have advertising in the headers and footers of the messages. Generally, you want to eliminate this as soon as possible so that it doesn’t distract from the information in your message.

Although I feel that building a list is the way to go because you can build trust and credibility with your readers, you can also go the other route. You will simply have to work a little harder for your traffic.
