Social bookmarking is about adding your websites and favorite sites to what are called social bookmarking sites. These can be sites like Digg, Netscape, etc.

What this will do for your business is to increase your rankings in the search engines, as well as get the word out about your business.

There are a ton of tools you can use to get the most from this technique. I talk about them in my members’ area: Killer Marketing Arsenal.

As for what tools I use, the main one is Bookmarking Demon because it’s faster, and easier, and I can bookmark one site in about 30 seconds. I don’t spam these sites. I generally only bookmark three or four pages a day, and my blogs are automatically set up to bookmark, so I don’t worry about it.

Unless you spam the social bookmarking sites, it’s a perfectly ethical and legal strategy for building backlinks to your website.

If you want to get your websites listed in Google, Yahoo, and MSN, then submit them. You will get indexed faster, and if you use a sitemap, even faster. (My sites usually get indexed in 24 hours or less). You can use social bookmarking or linking to get your sites indexed, but it can take months. I don’t recommend it. Do a manual submission to the big three and start getting indexed.

As for the Google algorithm, you can waste your time trying to figure it out and never make any money, or you can use Web CEO to optimize your websites for the search engines using only “White Hat” search engine strategies. White hat are ethical, and legal ways to optimize your websites for the search engines.

I don’t waste my time on Black Hat, and I don’t waste my time using spam of any kind because it only gets you banned. It’s also why you never hear me complaining about not getting traffic, or my sites getting banned from the search engines. Follow the rules, do the work necessary to get the job done, and you’ll get good rankings, as well as a lot of traffic.
