It’s been awhile since I posted on my blog. Because I write so much, and my business has been going through such a major evolution/revolution lately, I hit burnout.

I work too hard. I admit it. The secret though isn’t to work harder; it’s to work smarter.

However, you have to decide what it is you need to do with your business, or writing, so that you eliminate unnecessary steps that won’t help you get to where you need to be. You also need to be confident enough in who you are to take your business to the next level.

That’s what I’ve been doing.

The truth is, some of the things I was doing in my business just weren’t working, and they weren’t making me the kind of money I want to make. Some of the things I was doing just weren’t me.

The real secret to starting, and running a successful internet business is to first decide what you want, and then create a plan that will help you do exactly that. The internet is full of millions of opportunities, but not every opportunity is right for you. Although it’s hard to pass up opportunities that seem like easy money, in order to succeed on the internet, that’s exactly what you must do.

So, if you want to start a successful business on the internet, or you want to make your current business more successful, then what do you do?

1. The first thing you need to do is make sure that you are prepared to start an internet business.

Are you willing to do what it takes to succeed? More importantly, do you believe that you deserve success?

If you don’t, then this could be what is holding you back.

Sometimes when we are close to success and achieving what we want, we can engage in what I call “self sabotage”. This means doing things that prevent us from being successful.

(Over the next few days I’ll be bringing you some resources to help you deal with this and decide where you’re really at in your business. Then you can decide what you need to do to get to where you need to be.)

2. Not marketing.

In his book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind, T. Harv Ecker says that the most successful people aren’t afraid of promoting themselves.

If you aren’t promoting yourself and your business, and you aren’t selling yourself, then this could be what is holding you back.

There is nothing wrong with promoting yourself. You simply need to use effective marketing techniques that will help you reach your goals.

3. What are you doing to advance your business every day?

Robert Allen calls it the 80/20 rule. About 80 percent of what we do will never take us where we need to go. The important things, or the things that will advance our businesses are done during the 20 percent.

If you really want to advance your business, focus on the 20 percent. This is the part that will help you become a success.

Now, what’s holding you back?
