Over the next couple of days, I’ll be talking about the different kinds of writing that you will be doing on the Internet.

After that, I’ll do a brief introduction to internet marketing and then launch into the series on 10 internet marketing techniques. About every three days, you’ll get a new technique for marketing your business.

If you have a question, then post it in the comments section, or on the FAQ, and I’ll do my best to answer it.

Now, with that said, there will be three different types of writing that you will be primarily concerned with in your writing:

1. Promotional Writing - This includes ads, emails, sales pages, etc. Press releases and articles are also a type of promotional writing, but I’ve put them in a different category.

2. Website Content - This is anything that you might put on your website like articles, press releases, product reviews, and other news.

3. Blogs - I’ve put this in its own category because this will be the first internet marketing technique that I talk about. I want to go into a little bit more detail on your blog because it will encompass both of the types of writing above. We’ll also discuss getting ideas, and I’ll show you how I get ideas for my writing.

When my readers ask me about writing, I’ve learned that they’re less concerned about what they’re actually writing about, and more concerned about how it sounds.

Although you want your writing to look good, i.e. good grammar, good spelling, etc., don’t strive for perfection. If you do, you’ll never get your writing done.

I’ve also learned that there’s always some small minded person out there who’s never achieved anything on the net and has nothing better to do than criticize. Take the criticism with a grain of salt. Look at what the person is actually saying and decide if the criticism is warranted or valid.

I once had a reader who criticized a typographical error in a piece I wrote. He totally missed the point of what I was saying. When I visited his site to find out more about him, he had “Black Hat” SEO written all over his site, which told me he was probably a cheat.

Learn to ignore. You can find a lot of your mistakes, as well as improve the flow of your writing, by reading your work out loud. If it sounds good out loud, it will sound good on the page.

There are four resources I want to give you that I have found to be invaluable for helping me to write on the internet.

1. Nick Usborne - When it comes to internet writing, Nick is the best. Subscribe to his ezine. When I subscribed, he was giving away a short ebook called, Writing for the Web. You’ll want to take this little gem and print it out and keep it on your desk. It will solve a lot of your problems.

2. John Forde - John prints a lot of the best copywriting ever done, both online, and offline, in his ezine. You’ll want to save these issues and make a swipe file. There’s also some pretty good commentary on copywriting.

3. American Writers and Artists’ Institute - Even if you aren’t interested in copywriting as a profession, you’ll still benefit from the tips and articles you get in this ezine. It comes out about once a week, and you’ll want to read every issue.

4. Copywriting Library - There are three ebooks that are absolute classics in the field of online copywriting. You can download these free. They are: Million Dollar Emails, Autoresponder Magic, and Web Sales Letter Supreme. Not only will you find some of the best tips on writing copy in these three ebooks, but you’ll also have an excellent swipe file for your copy. This file is in zip so you’ll need a zip manager to open it. All of the ebooks are PDF, so they can be read on any computer.

In my next installment, we’ll talk about promotional writing. Throughout each section, I’ll give you my best search engine optimization tips so that you can get the most out of your writing.
