Promoting a blog is a lot easier than promoting other types of sites because you have so many options available to you.
Once you’ve created your blog and you have about five to 10 entries on it, then it’s time to start promoting it. The more content that you have posted to it, the better because this gives you a better chance of getting indexed quickly.
The first thing you need to do is submit to the blog directories and RSS services.
There is a list of the top 55 RSS directories that you can submit to, but there is an easier way to get your site easily indexed.
I would recommend you use Feed Submitter first, but once you’ve done that, you can either purchase software to finish the job, or you can work your way through the 55 directories on the RSS directories list.
Once you’ve submitted to the basic directories, use the “My Yahoo” and “My Google” buttons to add your site to both Yahoo and Google. If you haven’t set this up on your blog, then I recommend you sign up for Feed Burner and add your feed there. Then you can just copy and paste the code into your blog and you’ll have all the buttons.
Make sure you submit your site to Moreover, and this will take care of MSN.
Finally, you will want to ping your blog. This lets the blog and RSS directories know that you have added a new entry, and your new entry will be added to their sites.
There are several free services you can use to do this, and if you look under the Internet Marketing Tools link in my menu, you can just go to that page and use the ping utility there.
Here are three services you can try out. Once you’ve tried them out, when you want to ping your blog, make sure you only use one. Otherwise, you may get banned from one of the services.

If your blog supports it, you can set it up to ping automatically. Wordpress will allow you to add all of the services you want and then ping them automatically. Blogger allows you to ping Weblogs automatically.
