Writing a product review is simple. There are several guidelines that you can follow to help you get the most out of writing a product review.
You can use the outline on my Search Engine Optimization site as a guide.
The basic format for writing a product review is as follows:
1. The title of the product or service.
2. The URL of the product or service.
3. Description of the product or service.
4. What you liked about the product or service.
5. What you didn’t like about the product or service, i.e. limitations.
6. What your recommendation about the product or service is.
Now, one thing I don’t do is recommend products I haven’t bought, or don’t own. The reason is that I don’t know the limitations of the product or service. I also don’t feel I can give an honest evaluation of the product or service if I haven’t used it.
There’s also the issue of credibility. You are attaching your name to a product. It better be good, because if it’s not, and someone buys through you and then doesn’t like to product, or can’t figure out how to use it, he/she will blame you.
Granted, my experience in this area is with people who didn’t bother to try and use the product, or didn’t contact support for the vendor to ask questions. That’s one of the dirty little secrets about affiliate marketing no one tells you. Because they bought through you, people will come back and ask you about it sometimes, not the vendor. You had better be willing to help.
Again, write in a conversational tone. Write like you are writing to one person, or a friend. Although the rules of good English still apply, you don’t have to write perfectly. Write from your heart.
