Although I think most people are nervous about building websites because of the technology and because there’s so much to learn, I think writing copy is harder to do.

Writing copy encompasses so much in building your business, and it’s also the most overlooked skill. It’s also a skill that you only develop with practice, and it’s something that I highly recommend you learn.

The easiest way to get started to learn how to write copy, whether you’re writing sales letters, ads, or any other type of promotional material is to start with that type, find sites where you can do research, and study actual copy.

You can do this by studying your local newspaper. Study the ads, study the press releases. Press releases are usually advertorials, and you may even find some press releases that have been converted into newspaper articles.

Study headlines. Headlines are usually the most important element in any sales piece because it’s what gets a reader to read the sales piece.

The easiest way to write a good sales letter, once you understand the fundamentals, is to use software that helps you. Then you know exactly what elements you will need to include in order to create good sales letters.

Another thing you can do to learn is to learn by rote. Find good ads, sales letters, etc., and copy them down. Write them in long hand or copy them into your computer.
