The one thing the gurus never talk about is search engine optimization. At least the millionaire internet marketing gurus.
This is the one thing that I wish I had ignored them on over five years ago when I started my business. I really wish that I had learned search engine optimization.
Had I learned good “White Hat” search engine optimization techniques, i.e. techniques that will always work with the search engines, I might have had some highly popular websites that could have made me a lot more money than I’ve made.
However, once I learned search engine optimization, and I’m now a Web CEO certified professional search engine marketer, I’ve never turned back from it.
Search engine optimization is a lot easier than you think. Here’s what you need to know.
First, the search engines change their rules so much on search engine optimization techniques that it’s really hard to know what to do.
However, there are certain things that I do that have really helped me.
1. Write articles. I’ve built 1000s of backlinks to my websites by writing articles. Eventhough I know most people hate to write, if you are passionate about something, you can write about it.
Don’t start a business based on what the gurus say is a hot niche. You’ll end up with a business that you hate. Although if I had it to do again, I wouldn’t go into internet marketing, what I did learn was that I have a natural talent for it, and I do love writing about it. I’ve also built up a reputation in it now, so that helps.
However, if I had it to do again, I would have done a site on crafts because I love crafts, or romance novels, or one of my other interests, and sites like these are easy to build content with because you can always get others to contribute.
So, if you hate the idea of writing articles, get others to contribute to your site. Make it interactive. Use a content management system so that others can contribute.
If you can’t write articles, write tips sheets and submit them as articles. Tips like “10 Ways to Market on the Internet for Free”, or “10 Ways to Tie a Fishing Lure, or Six Ways to Display Your Crafts” will work just as well.
The point is to share valuable information, and this is the first strategy of search engine optimization: Offer valuable content on your website. Search engine friendly optimized content.
You can use programs like Web CEO to optimize your pages so that you can get the right keywords and have keyword optimized content. All you have to do is download it, and then and follow the directions. That’s how easy it is to optimize a page because the program will tell you what you need to do.
Pay particular attention to the header section of your site. This is the section at the top of the page that only the search engines see, but is important to getting your site indexed correctly.
Try to include your keywords in your title, description, and keywords but don’t repeat them. The search engines consider this to be spam.
Although the header of your document isn’t as important as it used to be, you should still include this information.
Finally, there are some free resources I recommend you use that you will find helpful in learning search engine optimization.
Those will be the topic of my next post.
