Amazon and Blogger have teamed up to allow you to add relevant content to your Blogger blog.

This integration will make it easy for you to find and use relevant content from Amazon you can make money from, as well as sign up for the Amazon affiliate program.

For those of you who use self hosted WordPress, you probably already know that there are WordPress plugins you can use to integrate affiliate programs like Amazon, Ebay, Cafepress, Clickbank and others.

Before we get into the meat and potatoes of how you can use viral marketing to help get a buzz going about your small business, let’s start with a definition of exactly what “viral marketing” means.

According to the Wikipedia, “Viral marketing and viral advertising refer to marketing techniques that use preexisting social networks to produce increases in brand awareness, through self-replicating viral processes, analogous to the spread of pathological and computer viruses. It can be word-of-mouth delivered or enhanced by the network effects of the Internet. Viral marketing is a marketing phenomenon that facilitates and encourages people to pass along a marketing message voluntarily. Viral promotions may take the form of video clips, interactive Flash games, advergames, images, or even text messages.”

If you’ve ever had a hotmail, yahoo or G-mail account, you’ve participated in a viral marketing campaign every time you sent an email to someone – because the company inserted a small (and usually discreet advertisement) at the bottom of all of your outgoing emails – inviting the people you were communicating with to receive their own free email account.

So how can you put a viral marketing campaign together for your own business – and more importantly, do you even want to?

Let me answer that second question first, okay? YES! You definitely want to take the time to brainstorm your own viral marketing campaign – even if you don’t someday want to be as big as hotmail, yahoo or Gmail.

Back in the 50′s and 60′s, our grandparents used to talk to their neighbors over the “back fence,” call each other on the phone or tell their friends during lunch. The difference is, these days we use the Internet and cell phones.

What’s interesting though, is that with the popularity of the Internet, our trust – and believe in “social proof” – has become even stronger.

By creating your own viral marketing campaign, you’ll be doing more than getting the word out about your new affiliate product. You’ll be gathering social proof – and that will help your sales to go through the roof.

So how do you set up your own viral marketing campaign? The first thing to do is to get back to the basics.

Here’s the real “secret” to making a lot of money with affiliate products. Have the right product, with the right message to the right people in the right time.

So start with your affiliate product. Make sure that there’s a hungry audience for whatever you’re selling.

Then make sure that you’re sending out the right message – an in the right way. If you’re marketing a product to teens, you’ll want to make sure that it’s something they want – and you’ll have to reach them where they’re hanging out. That might be on MySpace, twitter or even Friendster.

What’s the right message? Maybe it’s a special report. But it could just as easily be a video. Or an audio mp3 file. Match your message to your audience. And finally, make sure that you’re getting your message out at the right time – when your audience is ready to buy it.

Make your viral marketing campaign stand out from the crowd – because that’s how it’s going to get passed around and become viral. By understanding the basics – who your audience is, what they want, how they want to get it and when they want it – all you have to do next is to create something that your audience loves – or hates – or finds interesting enough – to pass around to their friends. If you’ve been on the internet for any length of time I’m sure you’ve heard of marketplaces like ClickBank and others that offer affiliates products to promote that offer high commisions. These products allow serious affiliates an opportunity to earn a really high income every month.

eBay Alternative Swoopo on Google Affiliate Network – Website Magazine – Website Magazine

I happened to stumble across the Google Affiliate Network quite by accident. Either I’m not paying attention or no one in the blogosphere is really talking about it.

It is fairly new, and it’s definitely worth a look. Google does everything in a big way, and I expect that their affiliate network will be as successful as their other ventures.

One of the latest offerings is a site called Swoopo. This is a new competitor for Ebay, and this site puts quite a few twists on the whole auction thing. For thos of you who use auctions to market your business, or for those of you who love shopping on auctions the way I do, this is definitely worth a look.

Putting your traffic and sales on autopilot is no easy job. It is possible though, if you know how to do it. Your first step is to create a step by step plan to make it happen.

If you sell only affiliate products, then it is a little bit harder because you have to give potential partners an incentive to link to you. (One of the ways to do this is to offer an affiliate program.)

Reciprocal linking isn’t as helpful for your rankings as it used to be. If you want to build valuable backlinks to your website, then you need to build one way links. One way links are links that are pointing back to your website from other sites. These links need to be related to your topic.

Henry Gold wrote a free ebook to show you how to overcome these problems. It is called “How to Make $2,517.82 Per Week By Giving Away Stuff For Free.”

There is more to this report though than just how to give away your stuff for free. Gold also shows you how to find link partners.

It works like this: First, you create a list of keywords that are related to your topic. Then you search for those keywords using a search engine like Google. You find those sites that rank the highest for your topic and complement your site. Then you contact those sites and ask them for a link.

Although this is a simple way to build backlinks and traffic to your site, it is somewhat time consuming. However, it is definitely worth it because the better you rank in the search engines, the more likely others are to find you.

Another thing I like about this ebook is that it’s short. It’s one of the few ebooks I’ve read where the marketer tells you his/her story. For once you get to see inside the life of a big name internet marketer, and he doesn’t gloss over the details of his struggles or try to convince you that internet marketing is so easy anyone can do it.

There is also an upsell on the backend. The upsell expands the principles and techniques that Gold outlines in his free report, and it’s definitely worth a look. One thing he mentions is that if you really want to dominate your market, then you need to provide your customers with a complete solution to their problems. His course gives you one complete solution to getting traffic.

This system is very step by step, and it will teach you everything you need to know about using this technique, including how to write copy, create joint venture proposals that get results, and how to set up your system so that you only work about eight to 10 hours per week.

Recently I set up all of my products on Pay Pal to make it easier for me to get paid and pay my affiliates. Unfortunately, what ended up happening is I had more customer support issues, and the whole thing just caused too many problems.

I restructured the program completely because Clickbank came out when some features I desperately needed, and it gave me the opportunity to fix a lot of the problems. It’s also been my experience that most people like using Clickbank better because they feel they have more options for payment. Pay Pal is one of those options, so it allows me to offer as many payment options as possible to my customers.

It also allows my affiliates to get paid weekly or biweekly, something I wasn’t offering using Pay Pal (I paid monthly with Pay Pal).

So, now when you sign up for my affiliate program, everything will be processed through Clickbank. Because I use a very advanced affiliate program management script, I can also extend the length of the cookie, and the cookie is set for 10,000 days instead of the traditional Clickbank cookie, which is 30 or 60 days.

Currently I offer almost 20 different products, including my memberships. When someone buys the membership, the affiliate will be paid for as long as that person is a member.

My affiliate program now pays 50% across the board, and everything is processed through Clickbank.
