Writing Archives

For those who have read me before, then you’ve heard me talk about how little most writers make. Most writers who make any money at all make around $1,500 to $4,000 a year, hardly enough to live on.

As a writer who makes a full time living from writing, I always thought that maybe the reason most writers don’t make more money is because they don’t market. Now I think maybe it also has something to do with what they are writing about.

That doesn’t mean you can’t make money from every type of writing. I believe that you can thanks to the internet. However, if you want to make more, then maybe the way to do it is to write non fiction.

If you think that writing non fiction might be for you, then you want to read this book. Here’s how it will help you:

First, you’ll learn what types of books that publishers are looking for. The author offers sales figures, as well as titles, for non fiction books that have been published. (Come up with the right book, and you could potentially walk away a millionaire. Even if you don’t, write enough  books, and you will at least make a six figure income.)

Next, you’ll determine whether or not you have a book idea that will make you money. You’ll also find out how to research your book (You don’t need to be an expert to write a book that readers will enjoy).

Once you have an idea, you’ll decide whether or not to get an agent. Depending on your needs, you may find out you don’t need one.

There are also chapters on writing your query letter, your proposal, and how to negotiate your book contract. Once you sell your book, you’ll want to use the chapter on promotion to help you make more sales. And finally, it includes some pretty good tips on how to become successful as a full time writer.

What I liked about this book is that it really removed a lot of the mystery about publising, and it helped me to understand what types of books in my area of expertise would sell. I also liked the tips offered on how to get the most from your writing career.

The one thing I didn’t like was that there’s not more information on how to market online and sell more books using internet marketing. In fact, there is a lot of information not contained in this book, like how to self publish, or how to format your manuscript.

However, if you’re ready to change careers and begin your career as a full time author, you’ll want to read this book. Just find your marketing information elsewhere. Highly recommended.

The name of the book is: “Damn! Why Didn’t I Write That? How Ordinary People Are Raking in $100,000…Or More Writing Non Fiction Books & How You Can Too” by Mark McCutcheon

Best Way to Get Great Reviews of Your Book on Amazon

Best Way to Get Great Reviews of Your Book on Amazon | BestSellerAuthors Book Marketing Blog

Warren Whitlock has a post on his blog that I definitely think you need to read if you are a book author.

Use the tips in Warren’s blog post to help you get started promoting your books.

Amazon is one of the hottest places to market your book right now, and Amazon does a lot for their authors to help them sell their books.

If you haven’t signed up for an Amazon account yet, I would highly recommend you do it.

Your next step is to set up an Amazon Connect account (you will need to buy at least one book through Amazon to do this) and get busy promoting your books on Amazon.

7 Ways to Double Your Article Traffic

One of the secrets to getting the most from your article writing is the power of leverage. There are many ways to leverage your article marketing so that you get more traffic from your articles.

Below are seven ways to leverage your article writing for more traffic:

1. Outsource your article writing

Outsourcing is the most expensive technique to use to increase your article traffic. The reason is obvious: you will have to spend a lot of money to get a lot of articles written.

The best way to overcome this is to ask those you know who use articles to promote their businesses who they use to write articles. Try freelancing sites, as well as doing a search in the search engines.

2. Automate your article submissions

There are several things you need to consider here when selecting a submission service or submission software. The first thing to consider is which one you will use. Software won’t be practical if you use a Macintosh computer because most submission software is written for the PC.

Another factor is where you want to submit and whether you are building backlinks or looking for readers. I use a submission service that allows me to submit to top sites as well as hundreds of smaller quality sites to build my backlinks.

3. Use PLR articles

PLR, or private label rights, is content that you may rewrite in your own words. The disadvantage here is that unless you pay someone else to rewrite it for you, you’ll have to rewrite it yourself. The advantage is that it’s cheaper than hiring someone to write for you, and you don’t have to create your own ideas, just rewrite the content in your own words.

4. Rewrite your article using different presentation styles

There are many different types of articles, like How-To, Lists, Recipes, and others. I frequently use lists because they are easy to write, and you can easily turn each tip into an article and create a series for a free ebook.

5. Target the right keywords

If you write readers to find your article, then you need to choose keywords they are searching for.  Choose keywords that aren’t too competitive, get a fair amount of traffic, and searchers are looking for. There are lots of free tools available like Google Adwords External Tool.

6. Write an effective resource box

If you include irrelevant links, information readers don’t care about, or don’t give readers a call to action, chances are they won’t click through to your site. Give your readers an incentive to click through to your site by offering a relevant incentive and using a call to action.

7. Recycle your articles

There are so many ways to recycle your articles. One of the easiest is to expand your article and convert it to a free report. Many word processors now have PDF conversion tools, so it’s easy to convert your article.

You may also want to convert your article to video. There are many video tools available to do this. Recording your article as an audio is also another way.

If you want to get more traffic from your articles without really doing any extra work, then use these tips.

At the heart of the internet, we are all writers, whether we call ourselves that or not. The Internet is a content based medium, and those who use it are often looking for information.

As writers, we have the ability to provide that type of information in a variety of formats, including ebooks, books, videos, and other medium.

Whether you are a writer or not though, the secret to business success on the internet is to build a following of loyal readers and customers who want to buy what you write.

Think about it. Which is really easier? To marketing your business using all of the free techniques, or to simply send out an email to all of the loyal readers on your list?

Although it takes time to build a loyal following, here are some tips for building a list of loyal followers who want your writing and are willing to pay for it. Whether you write books, or sell writing services, these tips will help you sell more.

1. Market on forums and social networks.

If you want others to get to know you, then you will have to put yourself out there. This is difficult for a lot of writers because they are afraid of getting criticized. Although this is a very real fear, don’t let it stop you from marketing your writing. The other side of the coin is that you will meet people who love your writing and find what you’ve written helpful.

Social networks and forums allow you to connect with others who share your same passion.

2. Build a website and optimize it for the search engines.

Your website is your calling card for your writing. Include articles, descriptions about your writing, and any other news about you. This information, although static, helps others get to know you.

3. Create a blog and talk about your writing.

A blog is your public relations vehicle. It’s also another way for others to get to know you and interact with you. Write about your writing, as well as your topic. Tell others what you are doing, and give them more information on your topic.

4. Write articles and other content to give readers a taste of your writing.

Articles are an easy promotional tool for writers because it allows you to share information about your topic. It also gives others a taste of what you offer, and so the traffic you receive from these mini sales machines will be targeted.

Marketing your writing on the internet is the easiest way to market because you can do it from the comfort of your own home. Use these techniques to help you build a following and sell more of what you write.
